The F-1 student visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows international students to enter the US and study at institutions certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
The F-1 Visa (Academic Student) allows you to enter the United States as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, seminary, conservatory, academic high school, elementary school, or other academic institution or in a language training program.
F-1 student visa will permit you to work for up to 12 months in the US in a field related to your study. On your F-1 visa, you can only stay in the United States for 60 days after your graduation date, so it’s in your best interests to start planning for your course of action well before you graduate.
You can stay in the United States on an expired F-1 visa as long as you maintain your student status. However, if you are returning home or traveling to a country where automatic re validation does not apply, you must have a valid visa to return to the United States.
Eligibility: You may enter in the F-1 or M-1 visa category provided you meet the following criteria: You must be enrolled in an “academic” educational program, a language-training program, or a vocational program. Your school must be approved by the Student and Exchange Visitors Program, Immigration & Customs Enforcement.
Process: The F1 Visa is an easy enough visa to apply for, however, it is a very lengthy process and it can throw-up all sorts of complications, the best thing for you to do, is to be honest in your application, make sure that you have all of the necessary paperwork.
Timeline: At times it can be wrapped up in 15 days or it can also take up to 2 months depending on the availability of the dates.
The “M” visa is for nonacademic or vocational studies. M-1 visa holders for technical and vocational programs are not permitted to work during the course of their studies.
Holders of an M-1 visa that is for vocational and technical programs aren’t allowed to work throughout their course studies.

Process: All applicants will need to complete and submit DS-160 , the online application for a non-immigrant visa. A DS-157 form for all males aged 16-45. A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States.
Timeline: Typically, the M1 Visa processing time takes a minimum of four weeks. Therefore, it is advisable to submit your application by taking into consideration the date in which your classes will start.

An F-1 student visa is for student who wants to study in USA at an accredited university or College full time. Also for the students who want to pursue any English language course at any recognized institute.
On the other hand, M Student visa is for the students who choose non-academic courses or a vocational course in USA for a short term. It is also applicable for applicants who are going for training from an employer.
