When it comes to relocation, home renovations, etc, the portable storage containers always come quite handy. Even if one have no such tasks to do, a little bit extra space can be used either way. Therefore, the portable storage containers are preferred by several users in order to make extra space and easy organization of goods. Along with domestic uses, the portable storage containers are proven of great use in the industrial operations.

Warehouse management, raw material procurement, product storage and supply lines, etc. are some applications that make a prominent use of industrial portable storage containers. Since industrial storage is more complex as compared to the domestic ones, it is essential to handle them with care. By following some specific do’s and don’ts of portable storage solutions in the industrial applications, the efficiency of a specific industrial process can be enhanced.

How to Use Portable Storage Units- Industrial Guidelines

The guidelines for industrial use of portable storage containers involve a set of do’s and don’ts. Following are dos and don’ts for portable storage solutions.

Do’s

  • Prioritize the product storage sequence. Store the products that you do not require immediately towards the end of the container. The products that you require frequently must be stored in front for easy accessibility.
  • Label the boxes and arrange them in an appropriate order.
  • For the long term storage, ensure the product components are dismantled, cleaned, and dried so that it does not catch moisture, rust, bacteria, fungus, etc. Also, oil the components that are prone to rusting or chemical reactions.
  • Fragile products must be stored in shock absorbent wraps like foam wraps, sponge boxes, etc.
  • Install shelves and racks inside the storage containers to store products in an organized manner. It can also help in occupying the storage space with higher storage efficiency.
  • Make an appropriate selection of a storage container. Look for the factors like occupying volume, weight, dimensions, and product packing space, etc. Select the portable container that could sustain weight and that offers close product packing to avoid possible damage during transportation. If loosely-packed, the products may damage due to bombarding forces.
  • For the temperature sensitive product storage like food and beverages, agricultural plants, heat-reactive machinery, computer parts, chemicals, medicines, etc, invest in an appropriate HVAC system. The portable storage container must be integrated with specific HVAC products to keep temperature under control.
  • Ensure the quality and security function of the containers. Check for leakages, cracks, untightened nut-bolts, for quality assurance. Check the lock system so that the products cannot be accessed by third-party intruders.
  • Shock proof the container as transportation may exert shock and vibration on the products. Encapsulate the container with shock proofing layer to ensure the products do not experience vibrational damage.

Don’ts

  • Avoid using plastic packaging, as plastic packaging often catches moisture and tightened air, which can damage the surface of products like furniture, computer devices, etc.
  • Random stacking can result in product damage during storage itself and it also can make the unloading tricky and messy.
  • Do not keep reactive chemical, flammable objects, airborne fire-catalysts in vicinity. This can cause extreme hazards like explosion and chemical outbreak during the transportation of the portable container or loading unloading activities.
